HISTORY

Establishment of Machhindra Club‟s history dates back to 1973 A.D., when a group of young,
high energetic men decided to establish their own club in the name of White Machhindranath (Janabahadyo), god of compassion, highly regarded by all the locals located in the center of Kathmandu city.

After 31 years in the lower division league, Machhindra Club achieved its three decade long
dream to reach the top flight of Nepali club football in February 2005 A.D. A victory in its final league game gave MC the “B” division crown and thus the club was promoted to the Martyr’s Memorial League “A” division. Machhindra Club, for the first time in its history stated that its activity when the club featured its own football team named Machhindra Football Team (MFT) in Martyr‟s Memorial “D” division league. The club with its hard dedication, team spirit under proper management including local support and participation helped to achieve successful promotions from “D” to “C” and then to “B” division league. After years of further dedication, MFT was promoted to “A” division league and we have been able to secure our position in “A” division league since then. In its only second season in the “A” division league MC achieved a very strong 6th position, winning ANFA Fair Play Award. Finally Machhindra Club won its first Martyr‟s Memorial “A” division league this season (Year 2019-20).

The club also groomed players and coaches who are now playing for prominent teams in Bhutan, India and even as far as Poland 3rd division. From the beginning, the club has spread its activities not only in football but also in other activities like organizing social and community programs for the local and Nepali citizens. The club has been supporting financially and morally for all kinds of programs and activities for White Machhindranath God.

For the first time in the history of Chess Competition, the club organized Chess Tournament with cash prize reward on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti. The program was a huge success and was run for three consecutive years. It is believed to be the first professional chess tournament in chess history. Those golden moments are still remembered as a milestone achievement not only in memory of the club officials but also among great players of that era who are still displaying their brainy moves with new generations.

Mr. Surveer Lama represented Machhindra Club in National Chess tournament, and won the title of National Champion in the year 2008 A.D. Likewise, Machhindra Club secured the title of 1st runner up in National Team Chess Championship Tournament‟ held in the year 2067 B.S. at Sainbu, Lalitpur. Due to its prime location and bustling road, the club and its own another sister concern Machhindra Rover and Ranger Scout Team has been contributing volunteer servicing as a helping hand on religious activities that runs during the major/minor festivals and processions also providing crowd control and security during these festivals.

The club has been supporting financially and morally for all kinds of programs and activities of Janabadhyo (White Machhindra Nath).
